Palin quote of the day:
Saturday, October 25, 2008
Is there any institution that encourages passive-aggressive behaviour more than the condo strata board? We got the minutes of the latest meeting stating that there was a complaint that our dog was off leash and that our dog barks too much. If people have these issues I'm happy to try to address them but whatever happened to going and talking to neighbours? Just come and tell me my dog has been barking a lot when I'm not here. The best I can think to do is leave him in the other room while I'm out and hope that calms him down and maybe we'll try getting the collar that spritzes him with water when he barks but I would like to personally talk to someone about it rather than getting an impersonal letter about it. Condos suck.
Well, despite it not being my "real" birthday according to the internet (despite my mother's claims to the contrary) I ended up having a lovely day. I had a massage and pedicure at the spa chipped in for by my foster daughter and Davis. Dinner at The Reef was lovely. Danielle joined us and she surprised me with the best birthday present. Wrapped in beautiful pink tissue paper and adorned with a paper cupcake I received a pair of earrings I had been lusting over in her store, dangly silver scissors. Also, the scarf I had also been admiring for some time in both blue and purple. It was so sweet. There should be photos to follow eventually. She further made my night by having the foresight to have stopped at Detour dessert lounge before dinner to pick up my favourite cake. (vanilla, coconut, vegan: yes please!) All in all, I had a pretty good day and at the end of it all I'm officially a quarter of a century old for the next 365. (and I don't look a day over 12)

Dear Internet,
It's my birthday! No one knows apparently because I lied on Facebook. But now you do.
Love, Kristy.

Kristel Wyman
Rather than writing something of my own experience here today I'm blogging to link up to . Kristel has been a good friend of mine for years and she got into photography right before I did, inspiring me to give it a go myself. Kristel's wedding photography is always amazing but she has been traveling in the Czech republic and Poland for the past little while and I haven't spoken to her in too long but seeing her photos I am so moved by the art she is creating there. It has totally inspired me to travel because there is so much more heart in these photos than anything else I have seen of Kristel's. I just realized today that she is updating her blog while she is there and her story of visiting the prison camps in Poland is so touching. Please take a look at her work; I hope you appreciate it as much as I have the past couple weeks.

Just another bus ride.
The 'lowered expectations' couple was kissing on my bus today.
She runs her fingers through his receding hairline as he kisses her.
His hand curls around the danger red 'watch your step' sign when he kisses her.
But she doesn't close her eyes when he kisses her.
She watches the giggling girls sitting near the door,
the girls who called her fat,
the girls who called her ugly,
the girls she would never be.
Her eyes scream
"see, he thinks I'm beautiful,
see, I'm good enough.
see, he loves me."
They didn't notice.
But I did.

So I love and I loooove ! What could be better than a way to combine these two amazing things? This MGMT video for The Youth (directed by Eric Wareheim) does that and in the process, blows my mind with awesomeness.

Happy Tofurkey Day.
Happy thanksgiving! Are you giving thanks today? I'm going to be if I can get my hands on a tofurkey. I'm heading over to Market on Millstream in a couple hours with fingers crossed. I thought I was going to have a solo thanksgiving dinner with great self-portrait possibilities but Davis is going to join me so that should be nice. I'm so excited to have company I'm even going to whip up a (vegan) pumpkin pie.
Yesterday was an unexpected adventure day. I went to yoga class with Natalie. It was so great to be moving and connecting with my body and I actually found a lot of the things I usually find annoying about yoga classes really useful for me. (i.e. loopy talk like 'just do whatever move your body is asking you for') I just feel like I've transferred a lot of my stress into my back and neck and releasing it physically helped me work through some of it emotionally. During the final resting pose the instructor talked us through breathing in joy and positivity and releasing any stress or self-judgement on each exhale which usually just leaves me hyperventilating thinking about all the things I'm stressed about but I was really able to just release and rest and felt really great when the class was done. However, when the class was done the power was out in all of Victoria. Natalie and I had been planning on grabbing dinner but all we could find that was open was Safeway so we followed a yoga class up with chips, samosas and oreo cookies. It was still a really fun evening sitting in Natalie's cute little batchelor suite chatting about boys and what she wants to do with her life instead of finishing an English degree.
Today is very gray outside but it snowed about six inches in Regina last night so I'm pretty thankful to be on this beautiful Island. I might even bundle and go for a walk after Tofurkey dinner. This is my thanksgiving song.
Have a wonderful day and week. Speak beautifully, breath deeply and love completely.
